Big Walk

Big Walk is one of the best games I’ve played this year. It is utterly unique, and I feel like it’s been lost in the friendslop category.

It is a gorgeous, wonderful experience. It’s rarely meditative and often hilarious. It requires teamwork, communication, and a dash of inventive creativity.

It’s an endless anecdote machine. “Remember when we did…” will come up a lot.

The first time you activate the monorail. (and the moment you realise there’s more than one.)

Stopping to marvel at a sunrise.

A group of Big Walkers looking at the camera while holding onto a button

Discovering the underground tunnels and the nightclub.

Strapping a radio to someone’s back so they can’t turn it off. The music’s great, too.

Accidentally kicking your own walkie-talkie off a cliff and scrambling down after it.

The noise from smearing your hands on glass windows.

The first time you’re seperated from your crew and suddenly a flare gun lights up the night sky.

Someone fired the flare gun indoors. The current player is holding the flare gun.

Finding the megaphone and using it for nothing useful.

The glorious, bittersweet ending.

And the puzzles, which is the meat of the game - each one involves learning a new way to communicate, strategise, and work as a team.

A joyous game. Get it and do some Big Walking. I hope there’s DLC and it’s called Bigger Walk.
